The City of Guelph has made a commitment to sustainability, but realizing this commitment will require a systematic approach that involves strategic engagement with citizens. We propose to develop Guelph Engagement Mapping (GEM), an interactive visual tool for analyzing citizen participation in sustainability programs and actions at the home, street, and neighborhood levels. Modeled after the City of Guelph’s innovative energy and water density mapping systems, this software will inform municipal planners and policy makers by showing trends of engagement, demonstrating changing patterns of conservation, and helping to market transformation efforts. This work will require technical expertise, mentoring and financial resources between $10,000-15,000 including support to map tiles, create software design, develop a website and publish for the public use and in a professional journal.
