The Elevator Project needs your help! We are actively seeking volunteers to fill the following roles:
Job Title: Project Advisor
Purpose: Elevator Project Advisors help individuals and organizations navigate through The Elevator Project process. They will be available for pre-booked advisory sessions at 10 Carden (Idea Labs) to answer questions, provide information, listen, and give advice to Idea Makers.
Key responsibilities:
- Be available for pre-booked meetings with Idea Makers at 10 Carden
- Engage potential Idea Makers in a friendly manner
- Answer questions related to The Elevator Project process and provide resources where appropriate
- Skillfully listen to Idea Maker’s project idea(s) and provide direction to the appropriate information and resources such as application criteria and/or form, website, etc.
- Provide insight and advice related to personal professional expertise
- Inform Community Animator of any concerns expressed during interactions, or follow-ups required.
Reports to: The Community Animator
Length of appointment: February 2017 during the Elevator Project’s application phase.
Time Commitment: Advisors will be asked to attend any or all of The Elevator Project’s upcoming Idea Labs, to be held Feb. 22 7-9pm, Feb. 23 11am-1pm, and Feb. 25 1pm-3pm.
Location: 10 Carden in downtown Guelph.
Qualifications:
- Friendly & warm manner when talking to others as well as the ability to listen and make recommendations.
- Expertise in one or more of the following Community-Benefit areas
- The Environment
- Youth
- Arts & Culture
- Food
- Community Vitality
Support: Training for this position will be provided. In addition, the Community Animator will be available for questions and follow up with individuals and organizations should something come up beyond the scope of the volunteer.

Job Title: Mentor
Purpose: The Elevator Project’s Mentorship program aims to build the skills and capacity of Idea Makers as well as increase their project’s chances of success by giving them access to advice from community experts. The program is designed to harness the knowledge that already exists in the community. Mentors will be matched by the Community Animator with a project that has self-identified a desire for assistance on their “Expression of Interest” form. Elevator Project Experts meet one-on-one with an Idea Maker team to provide advice on their project full proposal form.
Mentors in a variety of fields such as marketing, finance, strategic planning, governance, human resources, research and evaluation are needed.
Key responsibilities of all Mentors:
- Adhere to the policies set out in the Elevator Project Mentorship Agreement.
- Meet with their assigned Idea Maker team
- Listen to Idea Maker’s project idea and provide advice and/or direction to appropriate information and resources
- Inform Community Animator of any concerns expressed during interactions, or follow-ups required
Qualifications:
- General willingness to share advice and expertise in a productive and constructive manner
- Experience and expertise in one or more fields such as marketing, finance, strategic planning, governance, human resources, research and evaluation, etc.
Support: An orientation session for Mentors will be held in March 2017. In addition, the Community Animator will be available for questions and follow up with individuals and organizations should something come up beyond the scope of the Mentor.
