Making Guelph the Garlic capital (MGGC): The Julien Project wants to facilitate the art of growing local garlic in our unused neighbourhood spaces to make our city self sufficient in this staple. This program will develop horticultural skills, sustainable practices, encourage conversations about the benefits of local food, and build community relationships. Trained mentors will systematically assist families throughout city neighbourhoods to utilize boulevards or other spaces to grow sufficient amount of diverse types of garlic for their yearly culinary and medicinal needs.
MGGC requires $5,000 in funds to purchase garlic seed, promote the program, and pay the salary for a mentor coordinator. www.thejulienproject.com
